“ Unbelievable food and service. Risotto, beef cheek, desserts are all to die for. ”

“ Watson and I had a tough time finding a place to eat this weekend: busy until Friday, restaurants in the provinces bordering Novara are often fully booked by the evening. So, it was by sheer circumstance that we secured a table at the Cascina dei Fiori restaurant in Borgo Vercelli. Not well signposted (the signs are available if you're coming from Vercelli, not from Novara), Cascina dei Fiori is a small, country restaurant. While its signage evokes the surrounding countryside, it has a British feel, as does the owner, who doubles as a waiter and a manager, having attended the hotel management school in Varallo and worked (even while studying) at his parents' hotel on the Adriatic coast. The host, extremely kind, professional, and affable, quickly brings us the menu and wine list. We begin with an entrée of Venetian-style anchovies; The appetizer: a vegetable flan with Taleggio cheese fondue is spectacular, as is the first course, a saffron and asparagus risotto. My second course, veal cheek in Barbaresco sauce on a bed of mashed potatoes (I wasn't even given a knife, it was so tender!), was also superb, as was Watson's, guinea fowl breast, sous vide and sautéed with juniper berries, accompanied by a cream of red lentils and turmeric and radicchio. Even the dessert (which, unfortunately, is once again listed as a sorbet), lemon and mandarin ice cream, is a wonderful cleanser. Coffee (although not my cup of tea, as it's too bitter for my taste) rounds out the meal. We wash it all down with two 0.75L bottles of Sanpellegrino mineral water and a bottle of Monferrato Rosso DOC "Le Grive" from Forteto della Luya in Loazzolo (a cuvée of Pinot Noir and Barbera), a very elegant blend. For two, we spent €189, with wine coming in at €40 and a cover charge of €4 each. Worthy of mention is the chef's dedication, who, after leaving the kitchen, introduced himself to a trio of diners who had requested saffron and asparagus risotto just before dessert (and who hadn't shown up at the 8:00 PM opening time). He apologized, but had to deny them the dish because the order had arrived too late for such a lengthy preparation time, and because the kitchen is geared toward only one serving: kudos! ”

“ A place out of time. You have to ring the bell to get in, and then you enter a restaurant like they used to make. There's a slightly unpleasant smell at first, but it quickly fades. The service is very professional and impeccable. I was recommended the pumpkin gnocchi, and they were very mild and full of flavor. As a starter, we had herring. I don't usually like herring, but this was excellent, with hints of fennel. You can tell there's a real mastery of flavor combinations. This restaurant is worth a visit. For gourmets and food lovers. ”

“ Rustic and elegant setting... Definitely a relaxing atmosphere... Family-run restaurant with excellent traditional cuisine. All dishes are carefully crafted and freshly prepared... The wait is a bit long, but that's to be expected for such an impressive result... The wine list is very respectable... The price is reasonable... Definitely recommended. ”

“ The place has a lived-in feel, the dining room with the fireplace is very pretty, but the other room is more of a normal one. An air of exclusivity is noticeable upon arrival; you have to ring to gain access . The service is elegant and discreet, provided by the owner couple (I believe). A refined menu limited to 4/5 courses per category can make choosing difficult. On the other hand, the excellent preparation and plating with top-quality ingredients satisfied the desire to taste typical dishes. The price is adequate for the quality, but not for everyone, especially those with a heavy appetite . Excellent wine selection, a 1/2 bottle of 375 ml for 15 to 20 euros. P.S. The dessert, although refined and perfectly executed, doesn't justify the price, €15 each. ”

“ Tried on 03/01/2026. Beautiful location 4 km from Vercelli. The owner is very friendly and knowledgeable. Delicious salami in fat as an entree. Excellent pumpkin flan with a light Taleggio fondue and delicious Martini di Boves raw meat with black truffle sauce and chickpea pâté. Incredible veal stew cooked slowly in Barolo and spices with creamed potatoes and a fantastic guinea fowl breast roll with juniper berry sauce. Fantastic almond, hazelnut, and pistachio semifreddo, salted and crunchy with caramel, and a wonderful millefeuille with Marsala zabaglione foam. Excellent wine list. Reasonably priced (desserts are expensive). Highly recommended. ”

“ Fantastic atmosphere. Excellent food. Impeccable service. Very reasonable price. This is a restaurant you cannot miss. ”

“ I like to go to dinner, avoiding days when I'm sure it will be crowded, and that's what happened last night. Mr. Paolo was kind, personally opening the door for customers and helping ladies take off their jackets, even offering cloakroom service. The dinner was excellent, as was the wine we drank, and everything took place in a very relaxing atmosphere. Mr. Paolo, after discovering that our parents were from the same area, forgot he was an English lord, making the evening even more enjoyable. Thank you, Mr. Paolo, in addition to the good food, I found a great host who, while not forgetting his manners, knew how to make me laugh. ”
